A very nice change from the typical Chinese restaurant. This place is not your typical Chinese restaurant. I'm not a fan of most Chinese places, because all of the food is swimming in sauces, and most dishes seem to taste the same as one another, if any real flavor is present at all. Red Ginger is definitely not that kind of place. We started with the caramelized macadamia shrimp, and the calamari. The macadamia shrimp had a perfect blend of flavor and texture... the accompanying sauce was a very good accent, not the defining flavor of the dish. The dish has a great combination of mildly sweet, slightly savory, and nicely creamy flavors. The nuts brought a very interesting crunchy texture to the soft but firm texture of the shrimp. The calamari was lightly breaded and fried, and was done very well. It was easily chewed, but still offered a pleasant amount of firmness. The entree was the seafood delight, a wonderful combination of shrimp, lobster, scallops and crab, served with fresh vegetables, rice and a nice white wine sauce. While most places serve a ton of vegetables, and one has to dig for the seafood, this dish didn't disappoint. There were many large scallops on the plate, along with a generous helping of shrimp and crab, with a few pieces of lobster. Again, the sauce was a great accent, without taking over the flavor of this dish. For dessert, they offered key lime pie, from the Florida Key Lime Pie Company. OK, maybe it's cheating to serve "store-bought" pie, but it was really good. A perfect combination of sweet and tart, with a nice firm texture to the pie filling. The graham cracker crust was nice and thick, a big plus in my books. Considering the very friendly, efficient service and the very refreshing, tasty food, I will definitely visit Red Ginger again. I may have actually found a Chinese Restaurant that I like!
